PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The Ceilidh held on October 17th, at the Police Officers Association Hall was a great success thanks to the efforts of Nigel MacDonald, Dave and Renee Campbell's organization of this event. Also worthy of mention is a great deal of thanks to those who brought food for the buffet and also to those who were generous enough to bring gifts for the raffle. This was such an outstanding success that I think another could be held in the Spring of 2010.
But we cannot afford to rest on our laurels. I would like to see the same kind of dedication shown by having even more volunteers assisting in organizing our 27th Annual Festival and Games to be held on Saturday, January 9th, 2010 at the Fort Lauderdale Stadium Event Site. I often wonder if the general membership realizes how much effort is required to organize this event. There are eleven members on the Board of Directors who work very hard on getting permits, arranging the entertainment, organizing the Clans, Vendors and the many other facets of bringing the Festival and Games to what we hope will be a success. It is the one opportunity we as Scots have to bring to our community a sense of our Culture and Heritage and pride in our homeland, whether to the Manor Born, or as a second or third generation Scot.
To those who open and read our Website, I urge you to consider being a volunteer on Friday, January 8th to assist in setting up the field for the event on Saturday, and on Sunday, January 10th to break up the field and leave it as we found it. But most importantly, come to the Festival and Games and enjoy. Bring your family, friends and acquaintances to taste a "Wee Bit o' Scotland". I would also like to thank Mark Featherstone for his untiring efforts as our Web Master.
One other item. Absolutely NO DOGS will be allowed admittance per our contract requirements and NO COOLERS will be allowed past the gate.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, January 9th 2010 at the Festival and Games.
Yours Aye,
Peter Buchanan, President
